BASIC SHIELD CONCEPTS (RESTRICTED)

Basic Shield Concepts is a comprehensive two-day training program designed to familiarize beginner to intermediate shield users with the shield’s functions and applications. The course delves into the historical origins of the shield, tracing its evolution from military contexts to its current use in law enforcement. This course will include both lecture and practical instruction on the following:
Traditional Shield Use: Participants will explore traditional shield techniques and gain insights into best practices for effective deployment.
Flat Range Training: The curriculum emphasizes hands-on practice, covering shield manipulation, marksmanship, movement, positional work, malfunctions, and reloads.
Practical Application: On the second day of the course, officers will examine real-world scenarios where the shield plays a crucial role in patrol environments. Working in pairs, participants will assess the need for shields in law enforcement. This assessment will involve testing tactics using Non-Lethal Training Ammunition (NLTA), allowing officers to evaluate their decision-making abilities based on the techniques taught
Equipment List:
-Ballistic Shield
-Duty handgun w/at least 3 magazines
- Rifle if issued
-Duty belt w/holster and magazine pouches (No Serpa holsters permitted)
-Body armor
-Eye/Ear protection
-Tourniquet on person
-400 rounds handgun ammunition
-100 rounds of rifle ammunition
-NLTA handgun or conversion kit
-NLTA bolt or rifle conversion kit
-100 rounds each of NLTA handgun and rifle
-NLTA protective gear for the student (Head, hands etc.)
-Appropriate range attire
-water and snacks
Students are expected to already be familiar with their weapon system and must be able to demonstrate safe weapon handling skills at the beginning of the class.
This class is restricted to active Law Enforcement Officers.
This class will involve some moderately physically strenuous activity and as such, come prepared.
Refunds will be given if cancellation occurs 7 days prior to the date of class.
